Automatic fire curtain for fire compartmentation in hotel lobies

Date:

Vetrotech Saint-Gobain India, the country's leading specialist in certified fire safety solutions, has launched CURTIVIA™, a new line of automatic fire curtain systems designed to meet the fire protection requirements of India's most demanding architectural needs. Available now for specification across India, CURTIVIA™ represents Vetrotech's first fire curtain solution for the Indian market and the latest addition to a fire safety portfolio backed by over 4 decades years of expertise.

The Product: Fire Protection Engineered for Open Architecture

CURTIVIA fire curtains are automatic, gravity-operated fire barriers that deploy from a concealed ceiling-mounted headbox when triggered by a fire alarm or Building Management System signal. In normal use, the system is completely hidden, stored within a compact headbox. During a fire, the curtain descends in a controlled, two-stage movement to form a certified fire compartment boundary, restricting the spread of flames and smoke while preserving safe evacuation routes.

The system is designed for the open-plan interiors, hotel lobbies, hospital corridors, atriums, commercial kitchens, and large-span retail environments that characterise contemporary construction in India, spaces where conventional fixed fire barriers are either architecturally impractical or design-prohibitive. Full technical specifications are available on the solution page.

Certification and Testing: What Specifiers Need to Know

CURTIVIA is tested to EN 1634-1, the European standard for fire resistance and smoke control of opening protective assemblies, internationally recognised as a benchmark for fire curtain performance. The system has been tested in an internationally accredited laboratory for bi-directional performance, meaning fire exposure from either face produces symmetric, certified performance.

Service and Installation: The CURTIVIA Certified Installer Programme

CURTIVIA is supported by an end-to-end service model covering specification, supply, installation, and ongoing maintenance via AMC options. Installation is carried out exclusively by specialists certified through the CURTIVIA Certified Installer Programme, a structured training pathway that ensures every system is installed to the standards required to maintain warranty validity and EN 1634-1 test certificate integrity.

A Shift from Static Barriers to Intelligent Protection

The launch of CURTIVIA™ reflects a broader evolution in fire safety design. Rather than relying on fixed, visible systems, it introduces a more adaptive approach, where protection is integrated, responsive, and aligned with the way modern buildings are conceived.

For architects, developers, and fire consultants, this represents an opportunity to move beyond compromise, enabling spaces that are both architecturally progressive and fundamentally safe.
