A Safer, Greener Future: Vetrotech’s VDS® Systems Are GreenPro Certified

Date:

In a world where performance and sustainability must go hand in hand, the need for solutions that are both high-performing and environmentally responsible has never been more inspiring. At Vetrotech, we see this as an opportunity to lead with purpose—where protecting people and property also means caring for the planet.

As a natural extension of this journey, the entire range of VDS® fire-rated and high-security solutions is GreenPro certified. A powerful affirmation of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, health, and wellbeing throughout the product’s lifecycle.

The GreenPro Certification and its Importance

GreenPro is a nationally recognized ecolabel by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), designed to help the building industry choose products that contribute to healthier, more sustainable spaces.

GreenPro certification offers architects, consultants, developers, and end-users a trusted assurance that a product has been assessed for its environmental impact across its entire life cycle. It reflects the transparency and accountability embedded in our VDS® System, highlighting key aspects such as material, safety performance, and sustainability impact. With this clarity, we enable project teams to make informed, responsible choices that align with their vision for greener, high-performing buildings.

Vetrotech Design Solutions® - a complete range of GreenPro certified fire rated and high security system solutions

The GreenPro assessment evaluates our VDS® Systems across multiple sustainability parameters, covering product design, performance, resource use, and lifecycle impact. From responsible sourcing to recyclability, each criterion reflects a deeper commitment to sustainability. Here’s what a GreenPro certificate indicates:

1. Product Design

We are dedicated to developing products with minimal environmental impact, by investing digitally from design to dispatch at our Saint-Gobain’s World Glass Complex, Chennai plant. A fully connected digital workflow from the outset enhances accuracy, optimizes resource use, and helps lower waste and energy consumption, driving a positive impact on the environment.

2. Product Performance

We ensure high performance and safety through stringent quality controls and material compliance across our fire-rated and high-security doors and windows. Our products are tested at reputed international laboratories, including TBRL (Chandigarh) and Thomas Bell-Wright (Dubai), to validate their performance against global safety standards.

To further support our commitment to safe and sustainable materials, our powder-coated frames comply with Jotun standards—limiting hazardous elements like lead, mercury, and cadmium—and ensure low VOC emissions. Additionally, our glass components are supported by Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), verifying the use of safe and approved raw materials.

3. Raw Materials

At Saint-Gobain, the glass manufacturing process integrates circular practices, recycling 10–15% of mixed cullet and reusing 100% of broken single glass in the plant for glass production cullet.

By prioritizing recycling and material reuse at the World Glass Complex (WGC), the facility significantly reduces landfill waste, actively contributing to the reduction of land pollution.

4. Manufacturing Process

  • Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy: We are actively transitioning toward net zero by balancing the use of coal-based (brown) and green energy sources, with a clear focus on offsetting brown energy through certified green energy credits. Since 2023, Saint-Gobain India have achieved Scope 2 net-zero CO₂ emissions through clean energy adoption, supported by IREC (International Renewable Energy Certificate) certification. Our manufacturing sites continuously work to improve energy performance by reducing overall consumption across operations.
  • Water Efficiency & Management:The WGC have operated with a Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) system from inception, ensuring no untreated water is released. All wastewater is treated onsite and reused as treated water. Water usage is kept minimal and limited to essential processes, such as glass cleaning, to maintain product quality while conserving resources.

5. Waste Management

We are dedicated to responsible waste management by prioritizing reduction, reuse, and proper segregation to minimize our environmental footprint. All single-pane glass within our World Glass Complex facility is 100% recycled by sending it back to the float unit for complete recycling.

6. Life Cycle Approach

We actively conduct Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental impact of our products at every stage—from raw material extraction to end-of-life disposal. These insights help us continually improve and reduce our environmental footprint.

We currently have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for our VDS® fire rated and high security glass partition systems and for our fire rated glasses. We also are in the process of obtaining EPDs for our extended product range.

7. Product Stewardship

We are proud to be CE, Certifire and ISO certified, underscoring our commitment to quality, safety, and sustainability in every aspect of our operations.

  • Training & Awareness: To build a strong, informed ecosystem, where every partner is educated on compliance and safety, we run the VDS® Certified Installer Program, a dedicated channel partner engagement program designed to train installers, focusing on skill development and product awareness ensuring high quality and compliant installations.

8. Innovation

At our World Glass Complex in Chennai, innovation means creating sustainable solutions that shape a better future. Our efforts go beyond manufacturing, from reimagining green spaces to investing in renewable energy and water conservation, our initiatives are rooted in long-term environmental value.

Urban Forest Development

We are cultivating an urban forest with 100,000 trees within the WGC campus, fostering biodiversity and contributing to improved air quality.

Solar Power Generation

We are harnessing renewable energy through 3 MW of solar power, significantly reducing our carbon footprint – inside WGC Campus.

Water Conservation Infrastructure

Large-scale rainwater harvesting reservoirs with a capacity of 152 million litres have been developed in our Chennai based facility to strengthen water resilience.

Open Space Rejuvenation (OSR)

What was once a dump yard is now being transformed into a thriving green corner, aligning with the Saint-Gobain vision of environmental renewal through design and purpose.

Vetrotech’s Commitment to Green Pro Certification

Achieving GreenPro certification is a proud milestone but it’s only the beginning. We view this as part of a larger, ongoing journey to create solutions that are not only safe and high-performing, but also environmentally responsible. As building standards evolve and sustainability expectations rise, we remain committed to driving innovation that supports both people and the planet—today and for generations to come.
