Exterior Applications – Hull

Glazing within the hulls requires extreme pressure resistance, yet natural daylight must be able to reach the passenger cabins and public areas.

Strong as steel for uncompromised durablity and safety

The hull is a massive steel construction, which may lead one to think, glass is the weakest link in the chain. This however is not the case. Glass can be as strong as the rest of the construction when produced under the norm ISO21005 and ISO614 – standards that all of our marine solutions meet. Of course, correct mounting and installation are also of great significance. This is why we work closely with a wide network of system partners and test our solutions rigorously with them.

Enhancing Maritime Comfort: Innovations in Privacy, Sound Control, and Lighting Solutions

Glass surfaces in the hull are often relatively small, compared to the rest of the ship. It is important to look carefully into product compositions, glass thicknesses etc., as pressures can be tremendously high close to sea level. Higher pressure on the glass means thicker glass composition and will naturally lead to a weight increase. With our full range of weight saving solutions for high pressure panes, we have the possibility to reduce the thickness of the glass and herewith also reduce the total weight of the composition. This without compromising the performance of the pressure glass.

Furthermore, it is important to select the best performance options, which can increase the sustainability, safety and privacy attributes of a glass.

Areas of application

When drawing a 15-degree angle line down from the tips of each lifeboat, all windows falling in this area must be fire resistant.

  • Fire resistance - CONTRAFLAM + PYROSWISS
  • Pressure resistant - STADIP laminated
  • Pressure resistant - STADIP LITE for light weight
  • Thermal comfort - CLIMAPLUS/CLIMATOP (KM ULTIMATE)

In order to withstand the high pressure of the waves, it is required for those windows closest to the sea level to be pressure resistant.

  • Pressure resistant - STADIP laminated
  • Pressure resistant - STADIP LITE for light weight
  • Thermal comfort - CLIMAPLUS/CLIMATOP (KM ULTIMATE)
