The ZHAW library in Winterthur is today the biggest university library in the German-speaking part of Switzerland and provides its students with a total area of 6000 m2 split into archives, the library area, lecture halls and study areas.

The former factory and listed building was renovated by P & B Architekten in 2014 and preserves countless documents about architecture, health, technology, economics and much more.

The required fire safety within the building is guaranteed with the use of Contraflam Structure in its partition walls. This solution provides an uncompromised fire resistance for up to 30 minutes. Due to the absence of vertical framing and its brilliant transparency, the flush glazing application not only ensures fire safety but enables a maximum entry of natural daylight into the building.

The glass was installed in collaboration with the metal fabrication company Pfister Metallbau AG, which is located in Thurgau.
