Relocation of the Aachen production site to Würselen completed

Vetrotech Würselen
Since the end of 2020, fire-rated and high-security glass has been produced with state-of-the-art machinery and a high degree of automation at the new plant in Würselen, Germany. Compared to the historic Vetrotech Kinon production facility in Aachen, the new site offers 25% more production space, allowing all manufacturing processes to come under one roof. As part of the relocation of production, Vetrotech Saint-Gobain Kinon GmbH, whose name referred to the original founder, was renamed Vetrotech Saint-Gobain Würselen GmbH.

The move lays the foundation for even higher production quality, planning reliability and safety in the workplace. The new site also allows for more overall capacity, even more flexibility in production and stable process operations through automation and operation within a state-of-the-art IT environment that enables product traceability. The new production facility also offers a working environment that focuses on wellbeing for employees in the new, modernized facilities. Features such as advanced LED lighting and energy-efficient systems for heating and cooling not only contribute to personal health and comfort, but also make a significant contribution to CO2 reduction throughout the plant.

At the new site in Würselen, Vetrotech continues to manufacture innovative solutions for the building and marine sectors that provide safety and comfort in all living spaces for even the most demanding applications. Covering a wide range of high-security solutions, including resistance to fire, impact, attack, bullet, blast, pressure, and even hurricanes also with multifunctionalities, which allow products to combine several protective and design properties. As one of Vetrotech's five European production sites, Würselen supplies all international markets in addition to its home market of Germany.

At the new production site, the 150-year-old tradition of the plant Kinon is transferred to a new era. Since its foundation in 1871 and its takeover by Saint-Gobain in 1952, Kinon Sicherheitsglas GmbH in Aachen has grown to become one of the leading experts in safety and high security glass. CONTRAFLAM, the first transparent fire-resistant glass, was developed there in the 1980s. Joining forces with Kinon opened up a new dimension for Vetrotech with a comprehensive range of glass solutions to protect human life. Having grown continuously over the decades, Kinon's expansion on the existing site reached its limits – especially as the Aachen plant was now located in a residential area that had grown over time. The new location at Jens-Otto-Krag Straße 6, 52146 Würselen, is situated in an industrial area with good transport links.
