Education
The new building of the Institute of Physics at the campus of the University of Rostock was inaugurated in 2015. It now comprises a foyer in which students are welcomed by the portraits of various famous scientists and physicists from past centuries who are pictured in an impressive collage. The artwork created by artists Klaus-Dieter Eichler and Hannes Arnold was processed onto fire-rated glass partition walls, which separate the entrance hall from the adjacent working space and auditorium.
The production process of the entire system was the most challenging part of the project: the artwork was first processed onto tempered glass with a digital print by Glassolutions Saint-Gobain Deggendorf. Subsequently, the glass panes were processed further as fire-rated safety glass by Vetrotech Saint-Gobain and finally installed into steel frame systems by Jansen. The partition walls were installed over two floors by Kaiser Metallbautechnik GmbH. The university foyer now provides uncompromised safety in combination with artistic expression, inspiring its students every day.
