Stena Line is the largest ferry operator on the Irish Sea, offering the biggest fleet and the widest choice of routes between Britain and Ireland.

Stena Edda is part of the new ferry generation following the Scandinavian heritage and designed in line with the company sustainability strategy by being highly fuel efficient to help reduce emissions. Thanks to the usage of star marine coating family Kinon Marine (KM) Ultimate, the ship benefits from less heating loss which means keeping the internal environment warm during the winter. Which translate the need for energy consumption, hence, lower CO2 Emissions.  

This is a great success story developing over 6 of the current Stena Lines float built in China, to sail in Northern Europe. Due to the very demanding weather conditions in this sail area, Vetrotech Saint-Gobain Marine has supplied a combination of Fire Resistance, Laminated glass and CLIMAPLUS glass panes. Our glass solutions ensure passenger safety, comfort, and optimize the energy control on board while maintaining maximum light transmission. Vetrotech Saint-Gobain Marine was pleased to deliver the glass solutions for the Hull and Upper Structure of the vessels built in China Merchants Jinling Shipyard as following the specification from the ships’ owner.

PROJECT KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

  • CLIMAPLUS, our double-glazed unit solution and CLIMATOP, our triple glazed unit solution, were chosen to face extreme cold environments. Both will optimize the energy control on the vessel.  
  • Sail comfortably and in style thanks to the enjoyable atmosphere created aboard the vessel 
  • STADIP® LITE, a glazing solution with weight savings of up to 41.7%, led to construct a lighter more sustainable ship.  
  • The first biggest Ropax (roll-on/roll-off features for the carriage of private cars and commercial vehicles) project built in China. This Stena Edda vessel is one ship out of 9 that we have delivered, starting already in 2018.
