Flames are not the only danger during a fire. Smoke can also reach extreme temperatures and impede the safe evacuation of building occupants. Smoke barrier glass and smoke barrier systems, including static barrier and static smoke solutions, were developed to mitigate this risk. Smoke containment screens are regulated to provide stable fire resistance at a constant temperature (600 °C) or on a standardized time–temperature curve (ISO 834).

Smoke barrier glass & smoke barrier systems tested for a constant temperature stability time (D) must maintain their integrity for a defined time at 600 °C. Barriers are classified in accordance with EN 13501-4 (Classification using data from fire resistance tests on components of smoke control systems).
