Battery truck starts Romont–Eschbach service
Date:
A practical step toward lower-emission transport
Since October 2025, Vetrotech’s main daily transport route between Romont, Switzerland, and Eschbach, Germany, has been served by a fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros in collaboration with logistics partner Dachser. The one-way route covers approximately 203 kilometres and typically carries shipments of around 8,000 kilograms.
The partnership between Vetrotech and Dachser is built on years of close cooperation and regular exchanges across logistics activities. Initial discussions about introducing an electric truck began in late 2023. Following feasibility studies and successful test runs, a permanent solution was launched in October 2025.
The introduction of the battery-electric vehicle represents an important milestone in the continued development of transport on the Romont–Eschbach route. It demonstrates how close collaboration between Vetrotech and its logistics partner can turn an initial concept into a permanent operational solution.
By introducing battery-electric transport on this connection, Vetrotech and Dachser are gaining practical experience with the technology under regular operating conditions. The clearly defined route also provides a basis for monitoring performance and assessing the results over time.
The initiative forms part of Vetrotech’s contribution to Saint-Gobain’s broader climate objectives through practical measures implemented within its own operational scope.
This project illustrates how long-term cooperation, technical assessment and real-world testing can support the implementation of new logistics solutions.
