About E Rating
Class E (Integrity) rating describes the level of fire integrity provided by a building element with a separating function. It measures how well e glass can withstand fire exposure on one side without allowing flames, smoke, or hot gases to pass through to the non-exposed side. By maintaining compartmentation, integrity glass solutions help slow the spread of fire and reduce the risk of ignition on adjacent surfaces. However, Class E e fire safety glass does not prevent the transfer of heat.
Class E (Integrity) rated glass is classified in accordance with European standard EN 13501-2. This e glass classification defines how long integrity glazing systems can maintain their performance during a fire, with time periods expressed in minutes such as 30, 60, or 90. For example, e glass rated for 30 minutes is classified as E30.
Performance criteria for the E (Integrity) rating include:
- No sustained flames on the side of the glass not exposed to fire
- No openings larger than Ø 25 mm or 6 × 150 mm
